Playford Tennis Team
I have always had a passion for tennis from a very young age while watching my brother play on the sidelines. I started playing tournaments around the age 8-10 and continued to play them until I turned 17. I have an extensive background in tennis as both a coach and a player. My overall best experience of tennis is attending Wimbledon and watching Luke Saville Win his first match.
As a coach I like to see my students engaged and enjoying their tennis. For me engagement is the key to success but I also want kids to have fun while playing. Therefore I will always try to incorporate both skill based and game based learning into a session. I have always loved working with kids as I get to watch them grow and succeed in their own individual ways. I have always believed that the best thing a coach could ever experience is the joy of their student succeeding. My experience in coaching consists of 3 years alongside James Partington as a Hot Shots coach and also coaching my school tennis teams. I have recently got back into coaching having joined the Tennisgear team in January 2020.
As a player I have competed at both state and national levels having travelled Australia competing in junior tournaments as well as representing SA in national championships. I was a member of the National High Performance Academy at Tennis SA for 3.5 years which enabled me to continue to grow as a player. I also competed in both summer and winter Premier League Women’s Saturday comp (now called State league) for many years having played for a variety of clubs over the years. In my second year of High School I was selected to play in the Pat Pearce Tennis Carnival representing SA. I was also a volunteer ball kid at the World Tennis Challenge for 4 years and completed my university placement at the 2017 Australian Open

I bring unmatched positive energy to my classes and don’t shy away from cracking jokes with everyone. I always participate in each session with a massive smile and help improve the skills of the students by giving suggestions throughout.
I grew up in Victor Harbor and played my entire tennis career in the Great Southern Tennis Association for Back Valley Tennis Club & Port Elliot Tennis Club. Since joining the team here at Playford I have reignited my passion for tennis and look forward to playing more games in the future.

Coaching style: Cheryl has loved tennis her whole life. Some of her earliest memories are of watching and studying the game. As a result, she has seen many different types of play and has learned the technical side of the competition. Consequently, now as a coach, she loves to see her students finding fun in structuring points and executing successful shots. General on-court fitness is important to her, as well. Movement is key to executing great points.
Experience: After years of sports like basketball and volleyball, Cheryl transferred her love of the game of tennis into real court time a few years ago, finding success in women’s competition through the North East Tennis Association and social tennis leagues through Tennis Gear.
