TENNIS GEAR SQUAD PROGRAMS – ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In order to be eligible for the Tennis Gear Squad Program all players should be able to meet the minimum requirements as outlined below. It is also expected that players be committed to improving their game and playing fixture and tournament tennis where possible.

HOT SHOTS SQUADS

All players should be able to meet a minimum of 3 out of 4 of the following criteria in order to be eligible for the Tennis Gear Hot Shots Squad Program. If you have any questions regarding these criteria please feel free to speak with us.

Red Ball (ages 5 to 7 years)

Players must be able to complete the following requirements on a mini court (6m mini-net across the court doubles line to doubles line) with red (25% compression) tennis balls.

  • Rally: Players are able to have a rally of 10 (including forehands and backhands) over and in with a partner of equivalent standard
  • Serve: Players are able to hit 7 out of 10 serves cross-court into the service box from their service line. The player alternates which side they serve from
  • Come to the Net: Players are able to hit 7 out of 10 sets of 1 approach shot and 1 volley in the court starting from the service line with the coach or player of an equivalent standard (forehands and backhands)
  • Score and Compete: Players can alternate serves into any part of the court from the baseline (mini-court) and play out the points. Players can keep score in a tennis-scoring format (e.g. 15-all, 30-40, etc.).
  • Match Play: Players must be playing or looking to play in any or all of the following; Internal Tennis Gear fixtures (Hot Shots Leagues) and/or Red Ball tournaments

Orange Ball (ages 8 to 10 years)

Players must be able to complete the following requirements on a 3/4 size court using orange (50% compression) tennis balls)

  • Rally: Players are able to have a rally of 15 (including forehands and backhands) from the baseline with a partner of equivalent standard
  • Serve: Players can hit 7/10 serves cross court into the service box from behind their baseline. The player alternates sides and plays a 3 shot rally with their partner (serve-return-groundstroke)
  • Come to the Net: Players can successfully complete 7/10 approach shot and two volleys starting from their baseline with the coach or a player of equivalent standard
  • Score and Compete: Players can spin racquets for a serve and play a 15-minute timed match, calling the score and their own lines. The players must be able to give their score to the coach at the end
  • Match Play: Players must be playing or looking to play in any or all of the following; Internal Tennis Gear fixtures (Hot Shots Leagues), NETA fixtures and/or Orange Ball tournaments

Green Ball (ages 10 to 12 years)

Players must be able to complete the following requirements on a 3/4 size court using green (75% compression) tennis balls

  • Rally: Players are able to have a rally of 15 (including forehands and backhands) from the baseline with a partner of equivalent standard
  • Serve: Players can hit 7/10 serves cross court into the service box from behind their baseline. The player alternates sides and plays a 3 shot rally with their partner (serve-return-groundstroke)
  • Come to the Net: Players can successfully complete 7/10 approach shot and two volleys starting from their baseline with a coach or player of equivalent standard
  • Score and Compete: Players spin racquets for a serve and play a 15-minute timed match, calling the score and their own lines. The players must be able to give their score to the coach at the end
  • Match Play: Players must be playing or looking to play in any or all of the following; Internal Tennis Gear fixtures (Hot Shots Leagues), NETA fixtures and/or Green Ball or 12&U tournaments

Talent Development Squads

The minimum playing requirements for these squads are as follows:

10 & Under: Players must be able to complete the following requirements on a 3/4 size court using orange (50% compression) tennis balls) and achieve an appropriate standard on a full-sized court using green (75% compression) tennis balls

  • Rally: Players are able to have 2 cross court rallies of 20 (forehands and backhands) in 90 seconds with their partner. The
    outside shot should be predominately used and most shots should be over the service line
  • Serve: Players can hit 7/10 serves cross court into the service box from behind their baseline. The player alternates sides and plays a 3 shot rally with their partner (serve-return-groundstroke)
  • Come to the Net: Players are able to get 20/25 shots in. The player plays 5 sets of; an approach shot, 2 volleys, a smash and a finishing volley
  • Score and Compete: Players are able to properly play the best of 3 tiebreaks or a 15-minute timed match. The players are given information about their opponents strengths and weaknesses and must implement an effective strategy in their match regardless of the score

12 & Under: Players must be able to complete the following requirements on a 3/4 size court using green (75% compression) tennis balls and achieve an appropriate standard using regulation tennis balls.

  • Rally: Players are able to have 2 cross court rallies of 20 (forehands and backhands) in 90 seconds with their partner. The outside shot should be predominately used and most shots should be over the service line
  • Serve: Players can hit 7/10 serves cross court into the service box from behind their baseline. The player alternates sides and plays a 3 shot rally with their partner (serve-return-groundstroke)
  • Come to the Net: Players are able to get 20/25 shots in. The player plays 5 sets of; an approach shot, 2 volleys, a smash and a finishing volley
  • Score and Compete: Players are able to properly play the best of 3 tiebreaks or a 20-minute timed tennis match. The players are given information about their opponents strengths and weaknesses and must implement an effective strategy in their match. The player must then be able to review the match and explain their choice of tactics with the coach
